Safety Training Manual (SOLAS)
SOLAS Chapter III requires that all ships should be provided with a SOLAS Training Manual / Safety Training Manual detailing all training on the safety aspects of the ship. The scope of this plan is to provide guidance on the use of all the lifesaving appliances onboard. The plan is developed in line with IMO Requirements and common marine practices.
Fire and Safety Plans
The Fire & Safety Plan explains the type of fire detection system and firefighting systems available on a ship. It illustrates the various fire alarm systems, sprinkler installations, extinguishing appliances, means of escape to different compartments and decks, and ventilation systems including particulars of remote operation of dampers and fans.
Garbage Management Plans and Receipt Books
All ships 100 gross tons or above as well as every ship which is certified to carry 15 persons or more, must have a Garbage Management Plan. This plan should identify procedures for the collection, storage, processing and disposal of garbage on board the ship, including procedures for the use of equipment, and should identify the person responsible for carrying out the plan.
U.S. Non-Tank Vessel Response Plan (NTVRP)
An NTVRP is provided to assist a vessel’s personnel in dealing with an unexpected discharge of oil when operating in the U.S. The plan makes use of flowcharts and checklists to provide the Master, officers and certain crew members with a practical guide through the various actions and decisions which will be required and to carry out the responsibilities associated with the US Code of Federal Regulations.
Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP)
The Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan provides guidance to the master and officers on board the ship with respect to the steps to be taken when a pollution incident has occurred or is likely to occur. The plan contains operational instructions, names, telephone numbers, and other vital information needed in the event of such an emergency.
Emergency Towing Booklet
An Emergency Towing Booklet provides ship specific emergency towing procedures based on arrangements and the equipment available on board a vessel. It is a vital asset when conducting an emergency tow of a vessel.
Shipboard Energy Efficiency Plan (SEEMP)
The purpose of the Shipboard Energy Efficiency Management Plan is to encourage and establish a mechanism for a vessel to improve the energy efficiency of its operation. It lays out the foundation to put forth a system in place to optimize operational processes through the efficient use of crew and assets.
A Muster List is a list of functions each crew member is required to perform in case of an emergency. It gives clear instructions for each crew member as to what their specific duties and responsibilities would be. These instructions are provided in English and the language required by the vessel’s Flag State (if different than the English language).
Ballast Water Management Plan (BWMP)
In order to reduce the harmful effects on the marine environment that are spread through aquatic microorganisms transferred from one area to another through ballasting operations of the ship, the IMO adopted a convention in order to control and manage ships ballast and sediments. A Ballast Water Management Plan simplifies and sets forth the requirements of the control of ballast water and any ships entering international waters.
Safety Management System (ISM and Mini ISM)
The primary objective of the Safety Management System and manuals are to ensure safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and avoidance of damage to the environment, in particular to the marine environment and to any property.
Recovery of Persons from Water
A Recovery from Water booklet provides guidance for the Master and other crew members regarding procedures for recovering persons from water. Its aim is for the effective recovery and rescue of persons from water while reducing the risk to shipboard personnel involved in the recovery operation.
Ship Security Plans (ISPS)
The Ship Security Plan is a plan that is formulated to ensure that the measures laid out with respect to the security of the ship are applied onboard. The plan specifies responsibilities and procedures to counteract any anticipated threat to the vessel and her cargo. The ISPS Code makes it mandatory for a vessel to have such a plan in place. The SSP must lay out the protective measures for each security level and ship related activities.
Engineering Log Books
An engine room logbook is a track record of all ship machinery parameters, performance, maintenance, and malfunctions. The recorded values and information are used as a reference, to compare and record data to assess the ongoing performance of different engine room machinery.
Visitor Log Books
Logbooks are an important part of daily routines carried out onboard ships as they help in keeping together all important records and parameters for future reference. One such aspect is keeping track of visitors that come on and off the vessel. Keeping record of these parties gives the crew and ship owner assurance that no individual boards the vessel without being vetted or having some reference of it happening.
